Dodging Debbie

Well Pete, Bessy and I are on a short trip trying to dodge the effects of cyclone Debbie – with little success.

We left Mackay last week fully expecting that the cyclone would hit Townsville and not so close to home. Thankfully all friends and family fared well and all are safe. I did manage to avoid lots of dramas at my work place and I apologize to all for not being there to lend a hand. What can I say- the lure of sun, surf and fishing was just to much.

We travelled down the cost staying at Boyne river and Jabobs Well before heading to Evans Head in NSW, all the time keeping an eye on what was going on up north. Lots of phone calls and txt checking on everyone. Got to Evans Head last Tuesday and lo and behold Debbie was following us. Had 36 hrs of pissing down rain and a bit of a gale. Winds only got up to around 87ks – nothing like what Debbie unleashed on the north.

It’s still windy and the low system is sitting of the coast. No surfing for me, way to scary.  Able To go fishing and walk on beach still and the rain is only showers, so still a relaxing holiday. We were going to more further south next week but have decided to just hang around here and keep off the roads.  The store here is starting to run a bit low on some things but they expect all the roads to be open in a day or so. I am sure we both have enough reserves to last much lingr than that if necessary!!
