Hobart and Port Arthur

Well we have just returned from four days away going to Hobart, driving down through the Great Lakes and coming up back through Launceston. Believe it or not the weather was mostly fine!

After dropping Bessy off at the Hilton doggy retreat we headed down to Hobart and arrived early in the afternoon to a very sunny and almost hot day. We stayed at the Old Woolstore Hotel, a converted woolstore building (odly enough) down on Franklin Wharf.

After a wander around the port area and a walk through the city we hit one of the dock restaurants for dinner. The next day we visited the Salamanca Markets and then went for a drive around the bay side areas and stopped at Sandy Bay for dinner.

On Sunday we hit the road early and went to Port Arther. I am sure it looks much more peaceful now than in the day when it was used for repeat offenders in the “colonies”

On the way back we went through the town of Doo on the way to the blow hole and Devil’s kitchen, Interesting town Doo – they has house named Doo nothing, Doo-a-lot, Doo-doo-manor, a pub called Doo drop inn and of course Dr Doolittle s’ surgery and not to mention the Doolicious Cafe. The beach was rather quaint as well.

We came home through Ross – its supposed to be the most picturesque historic village in Tasmania and according to Peter home of the best vanilla slice in the world. I thought the bridge was pretty cute.

We came home through Launceston, definitely the hilliest city in Tasmania, and then headed home to Wynyard and our dog who once again had to be dragged out of the dog kennels.

    • Hi Pam – we will be here in Wynyard until the end of February, then going to see the rest of Tasmania before heading back to mainland. I am flying to Brisbane for Chris’ graduation and then up to Mackay to visit for a week. Will catch up when I am at home. Pete has to stay and work – its the busiest time of the year for Burnings. Not sure when we will be back in Mackay – when our money runs out probably!
