Well after bush camping on the beach we decided a caravan park for a few days might be the go – you know hot showers, toilet and clean clothes.

We headed across to the east side of the Peninsula in the hope we might get away from the flies and the wind – we were not disappointed. Drove to a little place called Port Vincent where we thought we might spend a few days. A week later and we are still here.

Port Vincent is a quaint little beach town with a jetty, marina and caravan park on the beach front. Lovely stone cottages line the esplanade and everything seems to move at a pretty slow pace. There are cliffs at either end of the beach and great walking tracks along them. (God, I sound like a brochure for south Australia tourism!) Both Peter and I like the place so much we would come back at some time for a longer stay.

After setting up our van the neighbors came over and introduced themselves and promptly adopted us for the stay. They were a group of four couples from Moonta (on the Peninsula) who holiday here together every year. They took us out crabbing, shared Melbourne cup lunch with us and generally made our stay very pleasant.

We did several day trips from Port Vincent and covered the remainder of the Peninsula visiting places like Edithburgh, Currmaulka, Yorketown and Port Turton to name but a few. It is really a beautiful part of the world and well worth a visit.

Tomorrow we leave for the Adelaide Hills – its only about 200kms away – who knows we may even make it in one day, but I doubt it. Next post should be from the “wine country” and yes Bessy the wonder dog is still going well and growing each day.
