Heading Home

Well for those of you who do not know – we are heading home.

We left Tasmania on Wednesday 29th of April on a Toll freight ship.  We could not get the car and van on the Spirit of Tasmania until at least mid to late June. I have to start a new job on the 25th of May – so that was just not going to work for us. It was a bit weird being on a freight ship – felt a bit like cargo. We were the only “passengers” (if you don’t count the sheep), and got looked after very well by the crew. Had a niece cabin with en-suite and an entire lounge and dinning area to ourselves – no gift shop of course. Poor Bessy, however, had to be either be locked in the car or van for the trip as they have no accommodations for domestic animals. We decided the van would be the best bet, more room, and vinyl floor for the wet spots that would occur. The crew checked to make sure she was not howling or anything periodically during the trip. After an uneventful crossing and 19 hrs locked in the care, we finally got Bessy to dry land. When her feet hit the ground she peed for about ten mins. She did not pee even once in the van!!!!

Poor Bessy – all alone in the van with only the sheep for company

Goodbye Tassie – Hello Melbourne

We got a flat tyre on the Freeway coming out of Melbourne – not good. No where to stop and trucks whizzing past everywhere. A nice young man behind us told us there was a stopping bay just ahead and then he followed us and changed the tyre. Confirms that there are still lots of nice people around.

We have been taking it pretty slow heading home and have only made it as far as Hervery Bay tonight, were we are staying for a couple of nights. Probably home in Mackay on Thursday.

Queensland!!!

We have stayed in Shepparton, Dubbo,Junee, Moree, Goondiwindi and Gatton. Spent three days in Gatton visiting with Chris and Robyn. It was great to catch up with them and see that they are both well and enjoying work and Uni.

Looking forward to getting home and catching up.
