Shark Bay

After leaving Carnarvon we headed towards Monkey Mia and the UNESCO World Heritage area of Shark Bay. This included a stay at Gladstone Bay campground, a visit to the town of Denham and then on to Monkey Mia to meet up with Chris, Robyn and Walter.

Along the way we drove into Gladstone Bay and collected quite a bit of mud due to recent rain. Once there the camp ground and beach was quite nice if not a little windy.

After a few days camping it was on to the town of Denham and moving closer to our rendezvous with the kids.

We enjoyed our time there and visited the beach daily for walks and fishing, checked out Little Lagoon, Shell Beach and checked out the Discovery Centre and viewed the 3D historical video “Fire on the Water” telling the story of the battle between the HMAS Sydney II and the HSK Kormoran.

We had a great time at Monkey Mia checking out the dolphins, swimming in the rather cold water and just relaxing. The weather was stunning- warm days with cloudless days and very crisp nights.

Russell, the dog, was definitely not impressed with the emus walking around in the van park.

After our stay in Monkey Mia we all headed back to Geraldton with a pit stop at the Ocean Park Aquarium.
