From the Golden Mile to the Golden beaches of WA

After leaving the RV Park at Kalgoorlie it was time to hit the final leg of the trip to Geraldton home to about 40,000 people including our son and daughter-in-law and or one and only grandson.

Not only is the city important for being the home of our family members, it is also an important major seaport proving a service and logistic centre for regional farming, mining, fishing, sheep and tourism.

It is also the home town of Edith Cowan – the first woman elected to an Australian Parliament.

The Long and Winding Road to Geraldton

So – there are lots of ways to get from Kalgoorlie to Geraldton. With Easter coming up and judging by the number of caravans crammed into the RV park the day of our departure (many who simply could not get into a van park) we decided on an indirect inland approach avoiding the coast and Easter holiday makers

RV park Kalgoorlie – full to capacity (Before Easter!!)

Indirect has definitely been the order of the day. More like meandering with more than one incident of possibly heading in wrong direction.

On a road in the middle of know where we spotted a leak in the water pipe line. A fairly significant one that looked like it had only just sprung. Peter says “call 131375 to report it, I saw the number on a sign saying to report any leaks immediately”. We successfully reported the leak despite very poor phone service. I mentioned to Peter that I had not noticed any signs about leaks – his response- oh I saw it days ago and thought I should remember it just in case!

The inland trip has been ver quite, little traffic and lots and lots of wheat farms. A fee few camps along the way and two nights a Wattharoo station hotel. Only 137 people here but apparently they have a pretty good display of wildflowers during the season (later July to early November) in the sandy plains of the Watharoo National Park

Geraldton tomorrow- should arrive late afternoon.

Hot shower, toilets, power and water if you support pub. We were only people there. – the hot showers are great and food at pub excellent.
