Evans Head – NSW

Well we have been in Evans Heads for over a week now – and finally some sunshine. I am ever so glad we are in a van and not tenting it!

We are staying in the Evans Head North Coast Holiday Park. We don’t often stay in van parks but there are no free camp spots down here were you can take a dog, and heaven forbid Bessy the wonder dog get left behind. It’s a really large park (the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere they tell me) with over 800 sites. However, we are staying in the river side area (dogs welcomed) and it has a really nice small camp ground feel to it. They are certainly dog friendly, providing a free dog hydro-bath and a dedicated washing machine for your best friends items. The park extends from the beach front and around to the Evans River.

I also took a few pics several days ago when it was still a bit stormy.

We have been doing a bit of fishing, lots of walking on the beach and generally just chilling out. The seafood co-op sells great fish and chips and lots of cold seafood to cook – so eating is high on the list of things to do as well. We have only caught cat fish – lots of them, because of all the fresh water around. I suppose it would be fine if we were in Louisiana and could play a banjo.

Went down to Yamba yesterday – water much cleaner and even a bit of surf around. Great salt water pool if you are concerned about the sharks – Peter is such a scaredy cat when it comes to things that might want to eat him in the water.

For those of you who are new to my post I have included some photos of our van – a 18ft Kedron XC pop-top (off road van). It’s a bit older (but so are we), but a very well built van that suites our needs – don’t need to spend a fortune to pack up and travel around this wonderful country. Note the coffee machine. This is an essential item for traveling – it stops me from killing people in the mornings. Yes it runs even without power – that’s what the generator is for! We carted it around Australia for two years on the “big trip”, use it everyday when at home, and it is still getting bumped and banged around – a good add for Nespreso. They should give me some free coffee pods.

I cleaned out the car – found an old photo from several years ago when we went down a mine at Mt Isa, put it in just for fun. Very nice overalls.

Bessy of course is still a Wonder dog.
