Cradle Country

Well we set off early today to do the “Cradle Country Trail”. Not really the best day for it, as we drove higher the clouds got thicker and thicker. By the time we got to the Cradle Mountain viewing area, we could not even find it, let alone take any pics of it.

We drove up through Hellyer Gorge towards the town of Waratah. This is a lovely little town perched on the edge of the gorge. After having lunch we headed towards Cradle Mountain in the vain hope that the clouds might clear – oh well perhaps another day.

Waratah in the mist – if you look really, really closely Cradle Mountain is in the background

If you are looking for a new woman – I would not recommend Waratah as a good place to start. This pic was on the wall of the Cafe where we had lunch – the food was very good however.IMG_2776

As we climbed higher, the clouds got thicker and the temperature kept dropping. We are planning a trip to back when winter is in full swing and the snow is falling. We are going to stay in the cabins at the base of the mountain – Bessy is going to the Kennels at Wynyard.

We headed back to Bernie across the mountains through the Vale of Belvoir and Black Bluff Conservation areas, and of course the skies have cleared later this evening!

Bit of a slack post sorry, and I have to work for the next five days now – yes five full days in a row. On the up side I will be off for State of Origin – Go the Maroons.
