The Apple Island – Tasmania at last

After a quite afternoon waiting around the port area on the beach it was finally time to board the ferry and head to Tasmania. The loading of the car and van took a while, but all went without a hitch. Bessy on the other hand was not impressed when we looked her in a cage and left for the upper decks.

The Spirit of Tasmania I set sail with all the Lloyd’s on board at about 7.30PM. Peter and I spent a  pleasant few hours having a cold beverage, dinner and watching the mainland disappear before retiring to our cabin for the night. The crossing was relatively smooth and we both had a good sleep on the way over. Bessy was very excited to see us the next morning and slept most of her first day in Tasmania – so I am thinking she spent most of the night waiting for us to come back and get her to take her up to the cabin!

We have spent the past three days exploring the district around Davenport. We even got to pick apples from the roadside on the way out to Lake Barrington. It is an artificial lake in northern Tasmania, 40 km south of Davenport and  is 20 km long. Our first night here we had dinner with Jerry and Shirley (parents of one of Peter’s friends) and got to sample fresh local rainbow trout. How lucky are we, we didn’t even have to catch and clean them.

I have heard Tassy is a bit “different” – not things you usually see in the street.

Tomorrow we leave for Yolla to meet the people we are house sitting for and after that we are heading to the Bay of Fires to camp at Cozy Corner camp grounds for awhile. Maybe a spot of fishing and lots of long walks on the beach for Bessy.

I have noticed that along with our Aussie, NZ, UK and Canadian friends, that we have been getting lots of hits on the website from many other countries. It’s great to see that people are following our little adventure and I hope you are  all enjoying reading about our trip. If there is anything anyone would like me to add, please let me know and I will try my best. Please leave comments via the WordPress site as we love hearing from everyone. I do send a link via Facebook, but as neither of us use it much, we would prefer comments on the site as we get to see them as soon as they are posted.

We have all settled back into living in the van and traveling well, a little to easily I am thinking. Life will be tough when we finally have to return to the mundane day to day life when we return home. As always though, we still miss our family and friends, but I am sure there are many, many more places and adventures waiting for us. As we will be based in Tassy for quite some time, visitors would be more than welcomed – the more the better!
