After leaving Adelaide we headed down the coast bound for The Great Ocean Road. First stop was at the beach side town of Kingston and some of the best lobster pate we have ever eaten. We left Kingston fairly late in the day and drove through Mt Gambier to Portland in Victoria.
Kingston – South Australia
Spent the day in Portland exploring the port area, taking a tram ride and trying some more of the great seafood. After another late start we headed to Warrambool and stayed in a van park on the river. This town is just short of the commencement point of the Great Ocean Road.

Finally The Great Ocean Road – should be called the Great Ocean and Forrest very winding Road. We were lucky to get a nice fine day – brilliant sunshine and gentle breeze. The coastline was spectacular and the drive through the forest equally beautiful. We did not strike to much traffic and spent a leisurely day covering only 120kms until we reached Apollo Bay. We were very surprised at the amount of tourist at The Twelve Apostles as the other sites along the coast seemed to have very few visitors.
We are spending two nights on the beach at Apollo Bay before heading further along the coast to Bells Beach (for a quick surf, so long as the waves are not more than two feet high), a day at Torquay, and then on to the ferry in Melbourne.
Only took about a million pics – if you have time check them out.
The temperature has been quite cool – preparation for what is to come in Tasmania!
