Darwin – crocodiles, green grass and my personal favorite cold, cold beer

Well we arrived in Darwin last Wednesday evening. We are staying just outside of Darwin on a twenty acre property near Livingston – it is a bit of a drive into town, about 50km, but very nice out here.

The property belongs to the parents of a friend of our youngest son. They are currently in South America on a six month holiday, so while we are here we are helping out with the animals and grounds – but staying in the van, not their house, as they already have a house sitter.

We visited the Mindil Beach markets on Thursday evening – they tell me about 8 to 10 thousand people attend every Thursday and Sunday during the tourist season. Great food and fabulous sunsets over the beach.

Peter went for a job interview on Friday and started work this Monday with a company called MMC. He is doing yard/truck driving work and long ten hour days. I had an interview on Tuesday and start work next Monday – I have to travel 120km round trip to get to work, but all highway and good roads. Fortunately Peter gets a lift to work with the house sitter (who got him the job!), so one car is not an issue.

It is bloody hot here already though the nights still cool down. In preparation for the impending “build up” and increasing heat we had an AC fitted to the van. I love air-conditioning.

The plan is to work for 8-12 weeks (see how we go with the heat) and do weekend trips into Litchfield and Kakadu Parks. We also plan to do some fishing and Alice (my son’s friend) is arranging a Bara fishing trip for us.  We will be heading south when we leave Darwin – well there really isn’t any other way to go, is there.

Not much rally exciting going on at present – I have put in some pics of the property and some of our “new friends” as well as pics of the lagoon on the property where Alice lives. They recently pulled out a 2.6mt crock from the lagoon, but did not seem to concerned even though they swim in it – I mean it’s only small after all!!!

When you log on to read please leave a comment – so we can keep in touch with the rest of the world. I will hopefully have some nice pics to post next time after we start tripping around.

  1. Sounds like you are having a great time. Watch out for those crocs. I reckon even small ones have to eat! Hope work is ok for you both. Pam
