Peter – still alive and kicking

The rig – with the new 2nd hand ladder

Heading towards the end of our third week now and we have still not killed one another, mind you it was a little touch and go for awhile there today putting the awning up.

We have moved on from Longreach to Winton. Did all the usual things in Longreach. Hall of Fame, Qantas, river cruise and Museum. Spent plenty of time fishing in the river as well, but once again got some fish but not a single redclaw.

Traveled just through Winton today to “Long Water Hole” camp site. It is just 2kms out of town, no amenities, but not a bad spot. I am sure it is less dusty and a little more pleasant when it is not so dry. Apparently there are redclaw here as well. With the reduced amount of water it may give us the advantage we need to finally catch some!!! While we are here at Winton will be checking out the Dinosaur sites and perhaps a little hunting for fossils or even opals. Winton is known as the Dinosaur Capital of Australia because of all the sites around this area. We have already been to Lark Quarry and Muttaburra so will give them a bypass this time round. If you are interested check out http://www.australiasdinosaurtrail.com

I have included another photo of our “rig”. Note the addition of a recently purchased secondhand step ladder – it would appear neither Peter or I are as tall as we thought. (Yes Jim Law – I know we are short).

Not sure were we are heading to from here. The general direction is Darwin, but might make small detour up through Boodjamulla National Park. But the plan is to eventually go through Mt Isa into the NT and on to Darwin.

Keep you all posted – if there are any suggestions for information or pics, let me know and I will try to accommodate. Their is a recent pic of Peter in this post for Pam who is a little skeptical that he is still alive and kicking.

  1. Hi Cheryl and Peter. Googled Winton nearing NT border, when do you have to be croc aware when near water. Do take care. Winton seems big town hospital as well. I would be missing luxuries by now well done on you two. Are you ho[ing to get to Darwin by xmas, have you snow spades to keep drifts from the van ha ha AlanXXX

    • The crocs will probably come into thought after mt isa as we will head towards the gulf of carpenteria . That is the real home if the salt water crocs . They can be hundreds of kilometers inland so I won’t take any risks . I wish we had snow to contend with as it is quite warm here already 34 during the day but it gets down to 12 c in the early morning . We are even thinking if maybe heading south soon then coming back up for winter to Darwin .

  2. Hi Guys, finally got round to checking out your site. Looks like retirement is suiting you. Sitting here having cuppa with Steve Fricke. He say hey. Luv Carolyn and David.
