Dump it – Don’t Hump it

Don’t hump it – Dump it! My first experience at a waste dump point. What fun, actually it was not that bad. But really – Don’t hump it, Dump it, sounds like a song title or a slogan for a bad girlfriend to me!!!

Well we are into our second week now, and all is going well. We have spent the last week and a half camped up at “Higher Ground Homestay” near Fairbairn Dam. We have been fishing – with minimal success, and have put in redclaw pots – with no success. Everyone hear has told us it is a bit cold for the fish and redclaw, still it has been fun trying. Not to mention a bit of exercise walking along the steep creek banks – don’t want the grey nomad spread to get worse that what it already is.

Made a couple of day trips to the Gem Fields and had better luck with the stones than the fish. Both Peter and I found a few good sized blue sapphires, not great quality, but still good enough for a pendant of something like that.

We highly recommend this place for a short or longer stay – the price is cheap and all the water you need on hand – don’t under estimate the luxury of having plenty of water . Peter in particular appreciates the water as the washing has become is job. Peter has also had to fix the window on the car yet again – it has been an ongoing saga for about 12 months now. But it is working again, for the time being.

We have greatly reduced the amount for daily fags, but they ran out on Wednesday so it’s on to the electronic cigarettes until the cravings settle. I would not recommend anyone give up smoking whilst traveling around with your spouse in a shoe box – it’s a recipe for disaster.

I have added some pics of this spot and included a like to the camp ground for those of you who are interested. I will also include a link for our pommy friends who do not know what redclaw are.

We are heading towards Longreach today and are spending the night at the free camp at Barcaldine. When we get to Longreach we will spend a few days doing to touristy thing before going further north – will keep you posted.
