Well after weeks of being told “if I wasn’t ready, Peter would simply leave without me”, Peter has now decided he  cannot leave until he finishes the job that he has been working on. There has been some delays with building materials and the weather so he wants to stay a few more days to make sure that the guy he has been working for has everything sorted before we go.

The main draw back to this is the fact that I have packed just about everything, so now we are playing the “it’s in the Caravan game”. Departure should now be Wednesday 24 July – what’s a few days here or there when we intend to be on the road for 2 years! I will keep everyone posted and hopefully we get to actually set out on Wednesday.

We took the Van for a test last Sunday with everything fully loaded. All went well and the weight distribution bars that we fitted worked extremely well. Nothing moved, and trust me, you don’t have to drive to far around Mackay to find some really rough roads. So all is good – just waiting for Peter to get his act together so we can hit the road.

Peter and I have been fortunate to have known the wonderful people who have leased this Island. Over the past 20 years we have spent many a great time fishing and just relaxing on the Island. More recently we have done a few stints care-taking on the Island. It was very tempting to simply spend a couple of years over there rather than travel around Australia – but St Bees will still be there when we come back.
