Not tied down

First of all let me start by giving a warning – this is not meant to be a serious site for caravan travelers. You may find some useful tips and hits, but more likely you will find pitfalls to avoid.

After many years of talking and thinking about traveling around Australia, the time has finally come to do it. I have run out of excuses, and my husband Peter (who has been ready to set off for the last 10 years!) just can’t wait to get on the road. Now traveling and camping is not new to us – we have been doing that for the past 35 years, much of it with four children. So you would think we would find it a breeze to take off in a van with just the two of us. Not so.

First of all we had to decide on:

  • what type of Caravan
  • what we really needed to take
  • what to do with the stuff we didn’t take
  • what direction to head of first, Australia is one big country
  • how much money would we need – we are definitely going to have to work along the way
  • how long will we go for
  • and the list goes on and on

As we progress through this journey we will try to keep our friends and family updated on our adventures, misadventures, and interesting sites around the country. Of course the status of our relationship will also be in contention – nothing like living in a “shoe box” with your Hubby to make life interesting. And then there is also the fact that we are both going to give up smoking when we leave – it all sounds like a recipe for disaster to me, but I am sure we will survive and have a great time along the way.
